The Hunger Zone!
During turbulent times, many individuals as well as organizations seek change .. a lot of effort is being made by so many people to find new opportunities, new solutions and new ways of doing things; however, only few individuals and few organizations actually manage to create the needed change and pass through the bottle neck .. have you ever wondered why most people and organizations fail to change? It all goes back to the hunger game!
Reading History
Have you ever wondered who discovered tea? Who made the first bread bun? Who created the first watch? ..etc, and all great innovations in the world? History says that there was great coincidence in the process, but no one can confirm, as stories go back to 5000 years B.C. and most of the writings in this field will refer to certain legends that were not properly documented, but one thing we know for sure, that the ones behind every change in the world, and every new idea, were really hungry for success .. They have spent sleepless nights and enormous efforts to follow their goal and never gave up easily ..
Looking at the number of game-changing innovations today and how the majority of young leaders plan for change .. it is obvious that we have so many tools, lots of technology, lots of employees and support staff, but we are missing that “Hunger” feeling .. the drive behind every success ..
Fast-Food generations
The majority of people today are obsessed with fast food .. it is delicious, yummy, quick to order, doesn’t cost much (on the short term) and fills the stomach .. Limited number of people spend time “cooking”, right?!! It’s just because people are too busy doing something else .. and this is slowly teaching generations to lose the art of patience, self-control and more importantly, this destroys the hunger feeling too quickly ..
Now reflect that easily on relationships, whether social or work relationships .. the number of marriage divorces and number of premature work terminations without proper thinking behind decisions is actually increasing .. People are looking for instant desire “filling” and instant gratification of their needs and bit by bit losing the sense of hunger, and how good it is for our lives ..
Learning to snipe
Back in the old ages, when tribes were hungry and wanted to hunt, they used to spend a lot of time planning for the game .. setting proper traps, deciding on the hunting area, and waiting for hours, maybe days, for the prey to arrive .. so it required a great deal of patience and good planning .. Good snipers always have those skills … Hunger, Patience & Planning ..
Hunger drives the desire, patience fuels it and planning designs the journey .. doesn’t that make sense?
Now reflect on today’s market conditions … consumer markets are not strong, global economy is still suffering, and organizations are struggling with business targets .. But isn’t the majority looking for “Fast Food” solutions? Who is actually “Cooking”?
Chefs WANTED!
When things don’t really go well … when markets are down .. when individuals and organizations struggle .. the way out needs good chefs!
Good chefs will write new “recipes” and they will trust in their cooking even before they taste the final product .. so trust in the journey and believe in the good result before it actually happens .. This is exactly what we need .. Those seeking “Fast food” solutions will hire “processors” and “Workers” but not chefs..
Today I was inspired by a team of Chefs who are creating incremental changes .. amazing spirit and belief in doing the right thing despite the fact that they are struggling with the results on the short term .. and that is actually why I called them Chefs … The team identified their “recipe” and decided to follow small, but confident steps to create the change required.. today they shared with me one of the steps that they have achieved, and celebrated .. I felt the heat coming out of the kitchen, and could smell the success coming through ..
If you are an individual facing life challenges .. if you are an organizational leader who is suffering from low business performance .. please take off the “Fast Food” apron .. get hungry, then get more hungry .. and surround yourself with people who are all in the hunger zone for success .. put on the chef’s hat and start writing your success recipe .. then be patient, and wait ..
Great chefs have always achieved what normal people thought impossible one day .. the human power of innovation is just unexplainable, and every time people think that we have reached the top of innovations chefs dazzle the world with more .. The key to success was always the hunger behind it .. ask yourself today .. what are you hungry for?
